Honors English 12  (or British Literature) Syllabus:

There will be required writing assignments (4 minimum), readings and interpretation in British literature, novel studies (at least 2 novels or more), grammar studies, book reports over books written by British authors (two each quarter) and even speeches to coincide with units studied. We will study William Shakespeare's Macbeth and other Shakespearean writings.  Towards the end of the year, students will complete an in-depth research paper following the MLA format with emphasis on in-text citation and works cited.  Students are expected to complete each assignment within a timely fashion. For book reports, students may choose a novel of their choice, so long as it’s a British author, either from their own personal collections, from my classroom or from any library.

Grading Information:  To ensure his/her continued success in the classroom, you can check his/her student handbook/passbook that should list his/her assignment for that day along with deadline schedules for the more time consuming projects.  Bi-weekly progress reports will be sent home with the student requiring a parent signature.  On the progress report, you will note that the student will be evaluated in seven categories:  bell work, binder, participation, homework, other (a/k/a book reports), timings (timed writing events), quiz and tests.  It is expected that the student will strive for 100% in each category.Parents should also be able to access current grade status using the online gradebook a/k/a parent connect.

I can’t stress enough how important attendance is for academic success. Students are encountering new information on a daily basis, not only in my class but all classes throughout the day. When a student falls behind due to excessive absences, it adds stress to the student to not only make up any missing assignments but to try to learn new subject matters. It can be a very difficult situation. So please encourage your child to attend all classes.
